INTRODUCTION 

This document describes the anticipated operating structure for Service Technicians working for Arkansas Bag & Equipment Co. (ABEC)

Implementing this structure is the responsibility of the VP of Sales of Arkansas Bag & Equipment Co. or an appropriate designee.

FUNDAMENTAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

All workers within the Service Technician function at Arkansas Bag and Equipment will be qualified on all aspects of this Job Description, although they may be assigned various duties in different proportion on a regular basis.  It is the intention of the VP of Sales and this document that these workers are all capable of filling into another employee’s position in the event of absence or emergency.

Service Technicians at ABEC will be expected to complete the following functions safely, efficiently, effectively and competently:

  • Diagnose, repair, and install chemical delivery systems.
  • Diagnose, repair, and handle routine service items on a variety of dish machines, laundry machines, and floor care equipment.
  • Maintain all equipment, tools and supplies needed for the job.
  • Complete proper documentation at all service visits.

 

AUTHORITY

Service Technicians must contact the VP of Sales or an officer of the company for approval before making any changes to any equipment or programming whether owned by the customer or Arkansas Bag.

RESPONSIBILITY

The Service Technician is responsible for the timely, accurate and safe completion of all assigned tasks, as well as the prompt completion of other tasks and duties as may be assigned from time to time.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Service Technician reports directly to the VP of Sales.  The Service Technician has no direct supervisory responsibility, although from time to time, at the request of the VP of Sales, they may be placed in a mentoring/developmental role supporting newly hired employees in the Service function.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  1. Diagnose, Repair, and Install Chemical delivery systems, a variety of dish machines, laundry machines, and floor care equipment.  – This activity includes not only the actual diagnosing, repairing and installing of equipment but also includes the collection of information and the completion of appropriate forms.  The behavior and dress of the Service Technician must reflect the highest levels of professionalism and courtesy at all times.
    1. Based on the Routine services performed the Service Tech will maintain a mobile service inventory appropriate for the service visits.
    2. When service inventory is in need of replenishment the Service Tech will contact the VP of Sales. This must be done allowing enough time to receive the needed supplies from current suppliers.
    3. Based on specific service needs, the Service Tech will be able to adjust the call schedule to meet customer demands. 
    4. The Service Tech will be assigned a service vehicle and must keep VP of Sales informed of any needed vehicle service.
  2. Participate in regular mobile inventory counts – When the VP of Sales assigns a mobile inventory count the Service Tech is expected to supply the VP of Sales the completed count sheets.
  3. General housekeeping duties – A clean service vehicle is a safe and more efficient place to work.
    1. Upon detection of any scraps or dirt or other materials encumbering free and clear access to any part of the vehicle, the employee seeing the hazard shall immediately retrieve the debris and place it in a trash receptacle or impoundment area.
    2. On a weekly basis, each vehicle will be inspected for flaws and faults, which should be replaced/repaired as soon as is practical.  Service Techs are not expected to repair vehicles, but minor replacement of parts on an irregular basis is an appropriate responsibility.  Flaws or faults noted at times other than the weekly inspection should be handled or reported to the VP of Sales.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The following physical requirements must be met to qualify for the position of Service Technician:

  • Drive any of the available delivery/service vehicles
  • Lift loads of 60 pounds to a height sufficient to transfer, or to stack in delivery/service vehicle and customer storage areas.
  • Normal range of motion to transfer goods into vehicle loading areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications must be met to be eligible for the position of Service Technician:

  • Valid Driver’s License, clean driving record [insurability]
  • Able to operate fork-lift and pallet jack
  • Computer literate with the Internet and basic Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to work on several different tasks concurrently without omission of steps or details

MEASUREMENT OF PERFORMANCE

The following criteria will be used to assess the performance of Service Technicians:

  • Absence of customer complaints or concerns regarding employee while on customer premises
  • Timeliness of work performance
    • Limited absences
    • Limited tardiness
    • Requested times-off planned in advance
  • Error-free accomplishment of assigned tasks
    • Diagnoses
    • Repairs
    • Installations
